Christopher E. Chamberlain
Composer Arranger Songwriter
Biography
Writing music has been the driving force in my life as long as I can remember.
Since playing my first few notes on the piano, I've tried to continually improve and expand myself as a musician.
While the primary schools that I attended had extremely basic music education programs, I developed my abilities as a composer and arranger by transposing recordings of Mozart.
With a lot of self-teaching and years of writing and performing, I made it into DePauw's School of Music. I was never intimidated but sometimes did feel out of place. Being the only one in the Composition Department without any previous formal theory work, I had to stay a little later at night than some of the other students. In the end, I was the only one out of eight who made it through the program in four years with my Bachelor's of Music in Composition.
Then reality set in. Jobs in the arts, particularly music composition, are few and far between. I got "real" jobs, but my dream is to one day compose full-time. My heart is still in music. I try to work with my music and collaborate with others as often as possible.
